Buster Busts Loose! was a side scrolling game for the Super Nintendo, released in 1992 by Konami. As the cartridge box said, “It’s time to party Buster style in a game that’s more fun than a rabbit oughta have!” They weren’t wrong about the ‘fun’ part. Smooth movement, pleasant controls and just the right music and sound effects. The game was done right
The reception to Buster Busts Loose! was overwhelmingly positive, stemming in part due to its simplicity. Konami didn’t try to overcomplicate things. They kept it simple and light-hearted. Developers can sometimes lose this attractive aspect of gameplay (keeping things simple!) in an attempt to impress with feature overload. Oftentimes it’s unnecessary and it defeats the purpose, which is to keep enjoyment a priority.
