The world’s largest companies by market capitalization

The largest companies in the world are trillion-dollar companies by market capitalization. Some of these trillion and billion-dollar companies have very humble beginnings, starting in a garage (Alphabet) or starting out as an online bookstore (Amazon). Their valuations, while certainly impressive, come with a high degree of variability. For example, Meta Platforms was once among the top 10 most valuable companies but now stands at the periphery of the top 20. Its share price plummeted from a peak of $378.69 per share on 10 September 2021 to a low of $90.79 per share on 4 November 2022. This drop came soon after Meta’s announcement of its commitment to the metaverse and a decline in Facebook’s user growth.
