Spalding – The Official Basketball of the 1976 Olympics

Here’s a throwback ad of Spalding, the official basketball of the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games. Spalding was founded in Chicago in 1876 when it produced baseball equipment, and produced its first basketball in 1894. It’s tagline as of today is “Made for the Game”, a more concise form of its 1976 equivalent: “The name the game grew up with.”

At the time Spalding had business relationships with Rick Barry, Wilt Chamberlain, Pistol Pete (Pete Maravich), Dr. J (Julius Erving) and Ernie D. (Ernie DiGregorio).
