Sega Game Gear in 1992

In the early 1990s the Nintendo vs Sega console war was heating up. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis were battling it out for video game market share. When the Nintendo Game Boy was released in 1989, Sega needed a handheld console of its own and released the Game Gear in 1990.

Here’s a Game Gear ad in 1992 promoting George Foreman’s KO Boxing, The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants, and Spider-Man. Unlike the Game Boy’s black and white screen, the Game Gear shipped with a full-colour screen.

This ad was published in Web of Spider-Man, Issue #90, 1992.
