The World Economic Forum’s Global Risk Report 2023 has named the top 10 risks that are anticipated in the coming decade. Many of these are familiar such as the failure to mitigate climate change and the failure to adapt to it. And others such as the threat of cyber insecurity are becoming more prominent as internet technologies continue to play a greater part in our everyday lives. Many of the risks are interdependent. Social media, for example, provides us a glimpse of what greater societal polarization can entail, and with that polarization, conflict and geoeconomic confrontation becomes more likely.
It’s important to remember these are risks, not inevitabilities. And work is underway at the governmental, corporate, societal and individual levels to ensure our world is resilient to these risks.
