Cities With The Worst Traffic

According to the Tom Tom Traffic Index Ranking 2022, the top 10 cities with the worst traffic are:

  1. London (United Kingdom)
  2. Bengaluru (India)
  3. Dublin (Ireland)
  4. Sapporo (Japan)
  5. Milan (Italy)
  6. Pune (India)
  7. Bucharest (Romania)
  8. Lima (Peru)
  9. Manila (Philippines)
  10. Bogota (Colombia)

India holds the honour (or dishonour!) of having two cities in the top 10. Traffic or congestion, however, isn’t unique to any one part of the world, with Europe providing 4 highly congested cities to match Asia’s offering. South America makes a showing in the top 10 with Colombia’s city of Bogota, but conspicuously absent are cities from North America and Africa.

Some of North America’s cities are known for their congestion such as San Francisco and New York. Similarly, African cities such as Cairo and Cape Town have their fair share of traffic, but neither continent has made it to the top 10 in 2022.

The list is highly variable. Turkey’s bustling metropolis of Istanbul topped the charts in 2021 as the world’s most congested city. Traffic management, decisions to take public transport, road works and a plethora of other factors make the list a dynamic one.
